Degree to which two or more items (events, records) can be associated with the same subject.

Definition

Linkability measures whether an observer can correlate records to the same individual across time or contexts. Stable identifiers (device IDs, cookies) and shared metadata increase linkability.

In plain English Degree to which two or more items (events, records) can be associated with the same subject.

Why this matters

Why it matters: Linkability enables cross-service profiling and re-identification from “anonymous” data.

Example

Example: Reduce linkability by rotating identifiers, partitioning storage, and limiting metadata exposure.
